People
Feature 1
- These are my favorite kind of photos to take. I’m lucky to be fortunate to cross paths with these wonderful people that give back to me more than they’ll ever know. Like this lone sunflower in this open field, this is the perfect representation of Cindy she stands alone in a world full of selfish wrongly motivated people. She believes in a much simpler kind of way of life. Do you have a problem? Can you fix it? No! Then why worry? Cindy was more than welcoming of us and thats what I think ill miss most is there isn’t many left like her. I wish her well wherever she is today.

- This is Gil, we met briefly over coffee and huevos rancheros in the town of Marathon, Texas. I had been driving all night and made it just to sunlight stopped for a little pick me up and as I sat and had my breakfast this man walked into my life like a hurricane, fast and loud immediately caught your attention and then settled with his presence left lying everywhere around him. He chose to sit outside. On my way out I stopped and complimented his hat, he kindly replied “thanks you sir, I’m glad it pleases you!” Which I would notice he said to everyone else that had the same comment as I did, but I did feel special he gave me the time of day to share a couple stories back and forth between one another. We talked about kids, where we were all from, the weather, and of course where he got that hat. I asked him about some important life questions. I also asked him why he was so nice to a stranger pasting through his town, I also asked him why his personality seemed to have no flaws and how I might strive to be him as an older version of myself one day. He left me with this, “I try to leave more than I take.” And then he winked and shook my hand thanked me for asking about him and his family and the company for breakfast.

- Tony has a smile that tells you just about everything you need to know about the man. It starts with almost a frown, then in a instance it rises like a wave being carried from somewhere deep inside of him slowly building force as it travels towards the shore. I use this example because like his smile, a wave drags along the ocean floor and the upper part of the wave above the water line. I believe his smile comes from somewhere deep inside his soul and for a moment standing in front of it you are just lucky enough to feel the sheer force rights before it makes contact with earth and slowly melts away. We carried on a conversation for almost an hour covered about forty years or so. I had the utmost respect for this man afterwards.

- This is Sonia, I began and ended my day with her. Just as the sun crept up I started my daily walkabout around Denver, enjoying the great lighting and watching the city start to come alive out of its smoky haze from the night before (and I’m not referring to smog lol). Her and three other gentleman were sitting on a park bench cracking some cold ones watching the sun come up, what looked to me as an enjoyable morning. Then all the sudden a fight broke out not a physical altercation but a yelling match so loud it scared the birds away and caught my ear from across the street, they were in each other’s faces going back and forth the one stood up and said “the hell with y’all” and proceed to grab his home and stager away. I walked on, had three meals spent the day with friends and loved ones feeling blessed to be able to argue with people indoors was a blessing, because if you strip it down what’s the difference, my wine cost more than there 40s or our couch was a little more comfortable than there park bench. Later that night I walked by the bench again but this time on there side of the street, Sonia and an older gentleman had been sitting there seeming to be in a calmer mood. I walked by and said “hello, how are y’all” she responded with “enjoying the fresh air” I couldn’t tell if she was being sarcastic at first and then her vibrant smile gave it away! Genuine! We shared a couple jokes talked about her beloved Denver Broncos fitting as it was game day, asked if I could take a couple photos and she said the most surprisingly oddly profound thing to me just after taking this photo. She said, “convention is not beauty”. I walked away replaying over and over in my head what she had said. I did not know if she meant it in a physical form or metaphoric meaning. I looked up her name the next day, Sonia meaning: Wisdom.
